Complete range of Vacuum Suction Cups
Posted by Jonathan Plumb on
Selecting the correct suction cup for your application or even finding the same type of suction cup for replacement can be a difficult task
There are 10's of thousands of vacuum cups available all with the slightest difference in diameters, materials, heights etc....... So lets try to make a little sense of it all
The process to select the correct Vacuum suction cup is as follows:
First step is to determine if the cup is a "Flat" type vacuum cup or "Bellows" type vacuum cup.
Flat Type Suction cup:

or Bellows Type Suction cup:

This will be dependant of the application as the type of cup operate differently.
Second, Dimensions - What is the diameter of the cup (suction end). With the bellows suction cup how many convolutions (folds) resulting in he overall height.
One of the most important dimensions of a suction cup, Fat or Bellows, is the hole at the top that connects to a fitting. If this is not correct then it just wont fit to an existing fitting is a replacement. If a fitting is required then check the threaded fitting available with the vacuum cup.
Third Step - Material of the cup. This is where is can be tricky as many manufacturers have a range of pretty colours and materials that they will say is more durable, longer lasting and non marking. However the truth being the life of the cup depends on the correct selection for the vacuum application and the vacuum sources/pressure.
Always check with the application to analyse the environment the cups will be operating (eg. dusty, humidity, oily surface, food products). Materials such as nylon, Polyurethane and other rubbers can be effected.
Finally - Lifting force/movement vs vacuum source and pressure. Many suction cups struggle to operate and last if the weight limit is reached and/or id the vacuum pressure is insufficient as the cup deforms causing increased wear and tear.
